The Frugality of Arthur Gmeiner
In the world of throwing things away, the Wellsboro Art Club has challenged us through its new exhibit, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. If you haven’t stopped by, we will encourage you to go and take your family too!
There is another reason to go before October 23rd, and that is the art which is in the Atrium Gallery by Arthur Gmeiner. When Gmeiner’s Director, Carrie Heath, found out about the art club’s focus for this exhibit, she decided to bring out the work of the center’s founder, Arthur Gmeiner, which has a message of Frugality too!
Home Page cameras stopped into the Gmeiner so Carrie could tell us why she chose the art for the Frugality exhibit. Carrie shared that the exhibit’s name is Frugality, and she called it that because Frugality is a virtue. She continued by saying that Arthur Gmeiner was so careful with his money is what allowed us to have this space. There are over four hundred pieces done by Gmeiner, many of which show his Frugality. He reused many of the frames and also built some of them. Surprisingly some of the frames were even made of cardboard, which was unusual. Another way to save money!
To see Carrie’s favorite art piece of Gmeiner, you’ll want to watch the video and then go and see it for yourself. Also, two of the displayed paintings were painted when the artist was in his 90s. For the first time, a couple of his paintings show the back because they have maps of his birthplace and the one-room schoolhouse he attended. Both of them were in the Liberty area.
We hope you stop by to enjoy the art of history and the future!
