Seventh Free Guided Bird Walk
Photo provided
Among the notable sightings on May 7 was this chestnut-sided warbler.
Six people, Leader Sean Minnick and five others, including another member of the Tiadaghton Audubon Society, a DCNR park staff member, two campers at the park and a woman from Roseville, saw 36 species of birds at Hills Creek State Park during the free, two-hour and 50-minute guided walk on Saturday, May 7. It was overcast and cool.
Most notable were the chestnut-sided warbler, Baltimore oriole and the rose-breasted grosbeak sightings. “Each week we’re seeing more and more birds returning to our area,” said Minnick. “We’re still hoping for a warm, sunny day.”
The guided, bird walk this Saturday, May 14 is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Meet at the Hills Creek State Park office at 111 Spillway Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901 in Charleston Township, near Wellsboro.
At 8 a.m., participants will drive their own vehicles from the office parking lot to the nearby starting location. The walk will be slow-paced and last about two hours.
Free, guided bird walks will also be at 8 a.m. on Saturdays, May 21 and 28.
