Canton Business Spotlight: Jim’s Sporting Goods
Walking into “Jim’s” store as a little girl, I remember baseball gear, baseball cards, fishing poles, and of course an entire wall of guns. Today walking in, the wall of guns are still there but the rest of the store is mostly geared to hunting and target practice. Jim and Carol Fitch, owners of Jim’s Sporting Goods, are approaching a very significant milestone. In November of 2022, their business will have had the doors open for 50 years. Jim started his business in 1972 at the age of 26. He did so because of his love of hunting and fishing. Over the years, his inventory has changed, but Jim has not. Jim’s Sporting Goods has been a stable business in downtown Canton and his hope is that it will continue once he retires.
Watch the broadcast to hear more about what business was like in 1972, how things have changed, and what Jim plans to do in retirement.
