Singin’ in the Rain at Dickens!

by Sara Vogt - December 11, 2014

Our thirty-first Dickens of a Christmas celebration took place this past weekend here in Wellsboro. So many of us had hoped for snow (and some of us probably even prayed for it!) But instead of “let it snow, let it snow, let it snow,” – it turned into “singing in the rain.”

I was so encouraged observing the great attitudes displayed throughout the rainy event. Most of those involved in this adventure did their best to ensure those who came would have a memorable experience. After speaking with several of these visitors, I realized this truth – they were having fun regardless of the weather. I really admire all of the vendors from out of town (and our own retailers) who were doing their best to offer their services for others in an excellent manner. In this case, when handed lemons, they DID make lemonade…or at least, hot cider! Many who attended told us that they look forward to attending again next year.

From 3rd century Saint Nicholas to Father Christmas to Santa Claus – this figure has inspired and brought joy to many. From the very beginning of his legend, Saint Nicholas has encouraged us to give and to share. You can meet Santa this weekend at two special venues. First, he will appear riding on Tony’s Trolley from Tops Market to the Deane Center on Friday, December 12. Santa will be at the Deane Beane Free event (at the Deane Center) from 4-7pm. Photos with him will be available that day, along with storytelling, music, and free gifts! You can also enjoy brunch with the jolly fellow on Sunday, December 14th from 9am-1:30pm at the Penn Wells Hotel. To find out more, you can visit the Penn Wells Facebook Page. Reservations are strongly recommended. You can make a reservation by calling (570) 724-2111.

Coming soon – Handel’s Messiah, lights of Christmas, and Three Springs live nativity this weekend! Thanks for joining us today on Home Page.
