COVID-19 Drive Through Testing
Today we are reporting from the county’s newest COVID-19 drive-through testing site, located in the parking lot of the Walmart on S. Main Street in Mansfield. The drive-through test site is a partnering arrangement with Walmart and Quest Diagnostics, and is currently testing for ACTIVE COVID-19 INFECTION, (not antibody testing).
The test site is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:00am to 9:00am. Preregistration is required at www.MyQuestCOVIDTestPA.com and is limited to 40 tests per day. When registering, people can choose the day and time that is most convenient for them and the sample collection process takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. The test is a self-administered nasal swab test that you will complete from the safety of your vehicle. Trained Walmart staff and pharmacists are stationed at the drive through site to talk you through the testing process.
Presently, testing is limited to people who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19, been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, or experiencing any (even very mild) symptoms.
The results will be reported back to the individual via email from Quest Diagnostics. If you do receive a positive test result, it’s VERY IMPORTANT that you call your healthcare provider as soon as possible so they can assist you in managing the disease.
Since the onset of the disease several months ago, much has been learned about the spread and management of COVID-19. We know that transmission is often between people who are experiencing very mild (or no) symptoms. This newest drive-through testing site will allow for more testing for Tioga County residents and will allow for early detection and isolation of those that test positive.
Early detection and quarantine will greatly improve our ability to manage the spread of the virus as we transition from summer to fall and ultimately to the winter months when we know that people are more susceptible to illness.
As always, the most important things you can do to keep yourself and your community healthy is to follow the CDC and PA Department of Health guidelines on social distancing, masking when in public, disinfecting surfaces often and WASH YOUR HANDS.
Special thanks to Walmart Market Health & Wellness Director, Ankur Shah and Store Manager, Ben Landis for opening our local Walmart facility to help the community with COVID-19 testing.
