Hornets To Represent Buffalo Bills!
The Wellsboro Hornets football team claims victory in the Seven on Seven tournament, beating Buffalo in double overtime to become the Junior Buffalo Bills. They will be flying to Indianapolis in the near future where they will make a number of appearances, playing in a total of nine different games under the watchful eye of the NFL.
The High School Player Development Camp working with the NFL Buffalo Bills, the National Guard, and Mansfield University Sprint Football attracted players from close to twenty high schools from the Pennsylvania and New York areas, involving over 300 athletes.
About three weeks ago the Hornets competed in Mansfield against a number of outstanding teams from places like Athens, Binghamton, Elmira, Horseheads, Ithaca, Johnson City, Maine-Endwell, Newark Valley, Elmira Notre Dame, North Penn, Pittston, Sayre, Thomas A. Edison, Tioga, Towanda, Waverly, and Wellsville. The Hornets won that tournament to advance to regionals in Lyons, NY. They then faced off against a number of teams, including All-Star teams. The Hornets defeated the following New York teams: Batavia, Lyons, Syracuse, and finally, Buffalo – a school that graduates approximately 500 students each year.
The NFL states that the National Seven on Seven tournament provides high school football players (that have competed in the High School Player Development Program) a platform to compete in non-contact Seven on Seven play against other top players from around the country. As an extension of the HSPD program, the all-expense-paid events also include character development sessions. The event lasts four days and three nights. Typically this falls on a Thursday through Sunday schedule in July.
Congratulations Hornets, on behalf of all of us here at Wellsboro Home Page. We pray God’s very best for you as you travel to Indianapolis to represent Wellsboro, PA and the Buffalo Bills!
