The Weekly Briefing – A Life Changing Ride
This weekend Wellsboro Home Page spoke with Chief Jim Bodine and Ms. Sherry Mohr about an eye-opening, one-of-a-kind program offered at Wellsboro High School. Ms. Mohr teaches a Justice Education class at the high school. Students enrolled in this class are given the option to take a 2-hour ride with a Wellsboro police officer. “When I talk to students about it, I mention that this is kind of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them.” says Mohr. “They should take [this program] while they can.”
Students are involved with all the facets of police work – from speeding enforcement to crash scenes. “We allow them into any scene we’re working – as long as it’s not dangerous.” Chief Bodine assured us.
Finally, Ms. Mohr shared with us how the Ride-Along has impacted lives. “I have many former students who have gone into criminal justice because of this program, or have changed their career paths because of what they’ve learned on the ride.” says Mohr.
Students who wish to take part in this program are encouraged to speak with Ms. Sherry Mohr and complete the application forms found here.
