False arrest and fake charges!
Xiyue Wang is in the hands of a brutal regime in Iran, and his imprisonment is sounding the alarm on an increased number of attacks on American citizens as well as others from around the world especially those in the academic world. The charges are fake while the incarceration is very real and frightening.
Now, as Xiyue Wang’s nightmare continues Honors Students at Mansfield University are taking up his cause while participating in a Human Rights Advocacy course. These MU students are working in collaboration with Scholars at Risk, an organization based at New York University. The students are calling for the immediate release of Xiyue Wang and working hard to inform others about his plight.
Xiyue Wang is a student and a US Citizen. He was in Iran on a legal Visa studying Farsi and doing research on the Persian Dynasty for his dissertation. Then on August 7, 2016, he was arrested and charged with espionage and plotting to overthrow the Islamic Republic. Mr. Wang is one of several US Citizens who has been falsely accused of spying in an effort by Iran to put pressure on the United States for political reasons. Mr. Wang’s wife and son are under great distress as they wait for Xiyue to come home.
Xiyue Wang remains in Evin Prison in Tehran, notorious for its human rights abuses. Friends, family and US Officials confirm Xiyue Wang’s innocence. He is not a spy, and the research he was doing for his dissertation presented no threat to Iran or its government.
Please take a few moments to watch today’s broadcast and consider joining with the Honors Students at Mansfield University to secure Xiyue Wang’s release.
