Back to Basics – The Rope

by Mike White, Home Page Staff - March 26, 2019

Today’s Home Page feature is Back to Basics: an inspirational series by Pastor TJ Freeman and Mike White. The video and article feature an illustration and testimony by Pastor Mike about life and eternity.

According to a number of studies, including statistical data from Pew Research Center, about 75% of Americans believe in life after death. With this in mind, an interesting concept arises.

Imagine you have a rope. It’s 150 feet in length. That’s a pretty long rope! Now imagine that this rope goes on forever. It never ends. Let’s say that this rope is a timeline of your existence, which is eternal.

Envision a little blue notch on the end represents your life on earth. Many people tend to focus and revolve their life around how they can make their current situation better. How they can make more money, find a better job, live more comfortably, be more popular, etc.

I used to be that way. The only thing I cared about was the little blue end of the rope.

But what about the rest of the rope? The rest of eternity? Why would you make all of your decisions based on the blue part if you believe your soul is going to live forever?

What if, instead, we lived our lives for something greater than ourselves? Beyond just the hear and now. That’s what Jesus did – He lived to give His life for us. In John 10:10, Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

He lived focusing on eternity. Why did he do this? John 3:16 tells us it’s love.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus and want to experience His love yourself and live for something bigger than yourself, I’d love to talk to you! You can email me at mike@wellsborobible.com.
