The Lumberjacks Assemble!
The 2018 Tioga County Fair concluded with the Tioga County Fair Lumberjack Competition on Saturday, August 11. This year’s event was delayed because of weather, but that wouldn’t stop these passionate individuals.
Competitors participated in the following categories:
Men’s single buck
Women’s single buck
Men’s Underhand Chop
Women’s Underhand Chop
Men’s Standing Block Chop
Women’s Standing Block Chop
Hot Saw (open)Stock Saw(provided)
Jack & Jill Cross-Cut
The sport is a physically demanding, full-body workout. Each exercise is limited to 5 minutes to avoid overworking the competitors. But these pro’s battle more than just the physical challenges.
“For me personally, I’d say the most difficult thing is finding time to practice,” says competitor, Tom Oliver. “And just balancing going to events.”
Ever lumberjack has their own favorite category, including Gretchen Cicora.
“It’s doing the chainsaws and hot saws,” says Cicora. “I also enjoy just hanging out with my friends!”
