Wellsboro High School – Class of 2017
On today’s feature broadcast, Wellsboro Home Page highlights the Wellsboro Area High School commencement ceremony for the class of 2017.
It begins with Home Page Correspondent Johanna Vogt interviewing graduating Seniors as they share some very special thank-you’s!
Josiah Hill thanked his teachers and his family and reminded his mom that he loves her. Josiah also mentions his love for his father, who he says is always with him. Ethan Nichols thanked his family and teachers. He expressed his love for his Mom and Dad. Ethan concluded by thanking a very important friend who as always been there for him. Kaycee Kaltenbach thanked her family and all her teachers that have helped her make it this far. Shelby Marks thanked her family and teachers especially Mr. Mercuri, her culinary teacher. Bridget Kennedy also thanked her family especially her Mom and Mrs. Berndtson. Maddy Hepp thanked her family for supporting her all throughout High School, her sister, her grandparents and everyone. Sarah Huck said that she wants to thank her family too and Ms. Miller who has been a help through the years. Dupree Hosey’s big thank you went out to his family especially his mom for sticking with him his whole high school career. And, David Straniere thanked his grandparents, the wonderful classmates he’s had, his parents especially and his siblings who have all helped him through this crazy wild life.
The ceremony, held on the newly constructed football field, was a historical first. (Home Page noted that the stands were close to full, with no opposing team. The new seating is very comfortable, and the views are fantastic. If Mr. Kreger had fumbled his pen, we would have all seen the entire mishap. Perfectly.)
Principal Mr. Robert Kerger welcomed attendees on behalf of the Wellsboro Area School District and the Wellsboro Area High School to the one hundred forty-first Wellsboro Area High School Commencement for the class of 2017.
Mr. Kreger remembered four years earlier when eighth-grade teachers commented that they were sending the High School a very nice group of students as the class of 2017. Mr. Kreger noted that these students did not disappoint. He went on to say that the class of 2017 has been one of the nicest, most respectful and fun loving classes that he has had the pleasure to be around. He then continued by thanking the class of 2017 for setting such a high standard for future classes.
Then Superintendent Dr. Brenda Freeman addressed the graduates. Dr. Freeman told them that no matter where their independence takes them to remember the time that they spent in the Wellsboro Area School District. Remember the gas-lit Main Street of your community, remember that you always have a place to call home. Dr. Freeman went on to say that this school, your community, and your parents will always welcome you back.
Mr. Stanley Korenkiewicz gave this year’s commencement address. He reminded the graduates to take a few precious seconds to tell your parents, your grandparents, your teachers, your principal, your friends, your counselors, your pastor, and others thank you for helping you. He then went on to give some very important advice. We hope you will watch today’s broadcast to see Mr. K deliver three essential points of wisdom that will benefit us all when applied.
Salutatorian Abigail Cooper addressed her classmates. Her remarks centered around having a heart of thanksgiving. Her list was inclusive, and her thank-you’s were sincere.
Senior Choir members sang, Give Us Hope, under the direction of Mrs. Judy Smithgall. Note: At the end of today’s broadcast you will see Mrs. Smithgall bring the music to a stop for the last time. We wish her the very best in retirement and thank Judy for thirty years of service.
Following the musical selection, Valedictorian John Alden Weiner addressed the class of 2017. Alden said that it’s fun to look back on the days gone by but not to live solely in the past. Alden encouraged his classmates to press on reminding us all that we should not dwell on what we can not change. It is what it is. If we are too busy regretting the decisions we’ve made or wishing we could go back we’ll fail to enjoy the present. We’ll miss the memories that are being created this very moment. Alden went on to say, let us learn from the past, enjoy the present, and prepare for the future.
Several scholarships were awarded to specific members of the senior class.
Then, the big moment – 95 diplomas were given out by School Board President, Matthew Feil. Principal Rob Kreger certified that the students had completed the requirements necessary to receive a diploma from the Wellsboro Area High School. Tassels were moved from right to left, and the celebration began!
The management and staff of The Home Page Network congratulate the Class of 2017 on their accomplishments and pray God’s very best for each one of them in the future.
