Valentines Day Shopping 101 In Wellsboro
Does your sweetheart has a sweet tooth, and supports shopping at local small businesses in Wellsboro? If so, here are some places to shop for Valentine’s Day gifts.
Highland Chocolates is known for, you guessed it, their chocolate! If you walk inside and are immediately overwhelmed with all of the different kinds of chocolate, have no fear, and head for their special Valentine’s Day section.
“We have a large variety of beautifully boxed or foiled chocolate molds in milk, dark or white chocolate,” Mike Wagner, Production Manager, said.
Customers can choose from a bunch of options, ranging from hand-dipped gourmet strawberries, coconut filled hearts, or chocolate lollipops. Also available are different flavored truffles, which can be arranged in a small or large heart-shaped box. Consider buying a pack of chocolate pretzels, peanut butter cups or chocolate drops for your loved one.
“Don’t forget what Highlands Chocolates if famous for… our Pretzel and Specialty Bark! We have milk and dark chocolate pretzel bark to a variety of specialty bark flavors like cinnamon, and strawberries and cream,” Wagner said.
Customers are able to call ahead with an order. Call (570) 724-9334 and pick up your order on the 12th or 13th.
Shady Grove Natural Market is a great place to shop if your loved one wants to eat healthier for Valentine’s Day and shop locally as well. At Shady Grove, you can buy local free range grass-fed pasture raised beef and chicken if you want to stay in and cook a romantic dinner for the holiday. There is plenty of different kinds of coffee and tea to choose from, as well as ChocoLove brand chocolate bars, coming in lots of different flavors.
For the person who wants something a little different than chocolate or a cooked meal, locally homemade soaps and beeswax candles are available at Shady Grove. Do they like a little sparkle? There are also local handmade earrings available.
“The store is filled with all kinds of things that would be great for Valentine’s Day,” Bridgette, mother of store owner Riah Irion, said. “It just depends on what direction you’re going for. We could even create a gift basket for someone.”
Call Shady Grove Natural Market at (570) 787-0555 for information and store hours.
Another stop on your Valentine’s Day shopping list could be Peggy’s Candies and Gifts.
“Why buy a pre-made box and throw half of it away because you don’t like the flavors?” said owner Mike Hotchkiss. “Here at Peggy’s we say ‘Fill a box with your sweetheart’s favorite.’” A small box from Peggy’s holds three pieces of candy, and a large box filled 25 pieces, or about a pound and a half of chocolate! You can fill it with any type of chocolates you want.
Special to this time of year at Peggy’s are peanut butter and caramel shaped chocolate hearts. According to Hotchkiss, chocolate covered cherries are also popular this time of year.
“We have over 700 kinds of candy,” Hotchkiss said. “We have a lot of choices, and we can box any of it up for you.”
If you’re looking for something different, check out the Funky Chunky Sweetheart Mix, which has cinnamon popcorn, chocolate and red hots in it. While at Peggy’s make sure you grab a card to go with your purchase, and maybe even a small stuffed animal too. Call Peggy’s Candies and Gifts at (570) 724-3317 for more information and store hours.
