Happy Weekend, Tioga County! It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. APRIL PHOTO DANCE PARTY!

April’s winner is “Marsh Creek Sunrise” by Bernadette Chiaramonte Brown. This beautiful site can be seen along Marsh Creek Road just outside of the town of Wellsboro. Photography has been a way for Bernadette, a registered nurse, to relax after a busy day. Bernadette won a check for $300 for her photo submission.

This concludes our photo contest for now. We hope to bring the contest back at a later date with new rules and guidelines for our judges that will make the contest even more exciting and versatile. “PEOPLE FLOATING EVERYWHERE…”

Pine Creek draws visitors each year to enjoy the PA Grand Canyon by raft, canoe or kayak; survive the infamous Owassee rapids; and maybe even enjoy some wildlife along the way! This spring was an exceptional time to be on the creek with enough rainfall to allow float trips, starting in March through Memorial Day Weekend, one of the most popular times to be on the water. If you would like some training before heading straight to the rapids, Tioga County lakes are a great place to start! They accommodate both seasoned paddlers and beginners alike. In fact, they are the best place to learn. You can rent boats to begin your adventure at Hills Creek State Park. Tim and Chad have offered to instruct a beginners’ kayaking clinic at Hills Creek later this summer. You can email Home Page if you are interested in more information.

BATTLE OF THE BOARDS!

This feature showcases all of the fun that can be found at Pop’s Culture Shoppe located in downtown Wellsboro. The owners of Pop’s Culture, Julian and Anja Stam, opened the store to offer games, toys and fun for people of all ages. Their mission is to “promote social interaction and hands-on learning and fun,” says Julian. The store provides an environment to cultivate creativity and imagination – products and activities ranging from board games to art supplies to comic books and more. At the shop you can purchase, rent or join others playing your favorite games. Pop’s Culture Shoppe also hosts special events, like open game nights and clubs (for games like Mahjong, chess, Uno, and more.) Customers may enjoy free coffee as they play. WELLSBORO 2014 BACCALAUREATE

Wellsboro Home Page caught the highlights from the Baccalaureate Service held last night at Wellsboro High School. The service included personal reflections from a number of students, including our own Morgan Koziar of Wellsboro Home Page.

Special thanks and blessings to our own Morgan Koziar for her wonderful contribution to Wellsboro Home Page. We look forward to working with Morgan throughout the summer and wish her God’s very best as she heads to Slippery Rock University this fall.

THE WEEKLY BRIEFING – WATCH OUT!

This Weekly Briefing feature focuses on practicing safety concerning the events taking place these next few weeks. Wellsboro Police Chief, Jim Bodine, informs us on issues related to detours, vendor parking, pets and safety protocol.

Family Day will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Drivers are urged to take extra caution while traveling through the area because of all the children enjoying the activities around the green.

The Pet Parade will take place on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. This parade will run from Packer Park to the Green. There will be detours in place to avoid the parade traffic and drivers are urged again to take extra caution when traveling.

The 73rd Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival will take place June 14-22. This event comes with many safety concerns for the police department. The Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce has issued a “no pets allowed” policy on The Green during the festival. This is to avoid frightening or injuring any animals or individuals on The Green. Vendors are asked to park their trailers at the designated area at the High School. There will be detours during the 10K Foot Race, 2-mile Fun Run and Laurel Festival Parade on Saturday, June 21st. Please plan accordingly and take extra caution when traveling.
