Making the Cut – The Egleston Sisters
–
Few people have encapsulated a community quite like the Egleston Sisters did for Elkland and Tioga County in the late 90’s. Marlo and Brooke led an Elkland squad to the 1996 PIAA Class A state championship. This was Marlo’s senior year and Brooke’s Freshman Year. To understand the magnitude of influence that this team had on Tioga County, Brooke told us a story. “I ran into a stranger in a supermarket almost 20 years later who recognized me,” Brooke said. “And he told me that on the night of the State Championship he was hunting, and remembers crying in the woods after hearing Elkland had won.”

Swarm the Hive!
–
On Sunday, August 23rd, the Wellsboro Hornet Sports Booster Club will host the annual “Swarm the Hive” event to kick off the beginning of the 2015-2016 sports season. Swarm the Hive additionally awards Wellsboro athletes who have earned their Lettermen’s jackets. Carla Tardieu, one of the event’s organizers, explains, “It is also a way for athletes and coaches to do something other than training, with the support from parents.”
We were joined by Wellsboro High School Cheerleaders Renee Tardieu, Courtney Sweigart, Katey Pacific, and Gabby Losinger, who gave us a sneak preview of one of the cheers they will be doing on Sunday at the event. The marching band will also be attending Swarm the Hive to help excite everyone for the new sports season. This years’ new activities include a dunk tank and a raffle for a chance to “pie” a coach, among other prizes.
Swarm the Hive is open to the public and will take place at the Wellsboro High School Commons’ parking lot at 6:00pm, Sunday, August 23rd.
