A week of Mansfield Home Page feature highlights!

by Home Page Staff - April 1-2, 2017

It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

The 2017 Sports Hall of Fame!
The Tioga County Sports Hall of Fame inducted 13 new members on Saturday, March 25 at their 32nd annual banquet held out at the Tioga County Fairgrounds.

Former athletes from Wellsboro, Mansfield, North Penn, Liberty, Cowanesque Valley, Williamson, and Elkland gathered and shared stories about their playing days and their favorite memories. The event started with sports trivia from Pennsylvania State Representative Matthew E. Baker, recognition of newly deceased Hall of Fame members, an introduction of Tioga County High School honorees, and the induction of the Class of 2017.

Take a Tour of the Colon!
Since 1969, colonoscopies have been performed to detect and prevent cancer in the colon.

In today’s follow-up to our earlier segment observing National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Home Page correspondent, Sara Vogt, traveled to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to learn more about colon health and cancer prevention. There she met with Jonathan Demchak, PA-C of UPMC Susquehanna for an educational tour of a giant colon.

The tour progressed from a clean normal colon to a colon with signs of disease.

On the Radar – Child Safety Seats
As a Child Passenger Safety Technician, I get many questions about the proper use of child safety seats and the laws pertaining to them.
In July 2016, PA law was changed in regards to how long a child is required to remain rear-facing in a car seat. Children are now required to be rear-facing until age 2.
PA law requires the following child seats based on their age:
0-4 yrs old: a child safety seat, with child being rear facing until age 2
4-8 yrs old: a booster seat

North Penn-Mansfield downs Canton, 13-2
The high school baseball season may be in its early stages, but the North-Penn Mansfield Tigers appeared to be in top form on Wednesday; when they took on NTL opponent Canton.
North-Penn Mansfield looks to continue their winning ways on Friday March 31st, when they host Northern Potter.

Movin’ Together – Time Out, Stress Less
In today’s episode of Movin’ Together, Sara Vogt and Amiee Jones discuss the importance of taking “time out” or making time for yourself—an essential healthy tool to help in this journey called life! So far in our healthy tool basket for the year, we have added the tools of scheduling and hydrating. (Speaking of scheduling . . . sometimes our time out needs to be put in the book!)

Sara describes a time out that she has scheduled for herself on a regular basis for over two years. It has been a time of self-care, of learning, and of friendship; and now her friend, Kim, is making changes in her own life that involve taking time out on a larger scale.
