Lady Hornets shutout Port Allegany on Senior Night

by Ed Weaver - October 17, 2018

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team scored a 4-0 shutout victory over Port Allegany on Tuesday, October 16 during Senior Night.

Emma Poirier and Kerrah Clymer each scored a pair of goals in the win.

Clymer started off the scoring seven minutes into the game as Poirier gave her a nice pass at midfield and she outran everybody for the goal. Two minutes later Clymer assisted Poirier for a bank shot to make it 2-0 in favor of Wellsboro. The Lady Hornets added one more goal to give them a 3-0 lead at the half as Clymer scored off a cross by Poirier with 17:40 remaining.

Wellsboro’s final goal came late in the second half. With 3:25 remaining, Jessica McCarthy and Poirier executed a little give-and-go that Poirier finished to make it 4-0.

Poirier now has 21 goals on the year and Clymer has 23. Poirier has now scored 54 career goals while Clymer is a goal away from 40.

Wellsboro’s defense held Port Allegany to just three shots on goal while the Lady Hornets took 17. Wellsboro had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Lilly Abadi recorded 2 saves in goal for the shutout.

The Wellsboro JV team also score a shutout, 1-0, with the goal by Hannah Morey.

The win improves the Lady Hornets’ record to 10-7 (9-4 NTL). The team is back in action for their final regular season game on Thursday, October 18 at Williamsport.
