Goodies for our Troops & Winter Jazz Fest
Dawn Pletcher, founder and co-director of Goodies For Our Troops, sat down with Homepage anchor Sarah Vickery to talk about how it all started and what inspired her to do it.
Dawn drew inspiration from her uncle who was an army air core pilot. She said it all started when her uncle came home from the war and held her up in the air and told her she was flying. Since that moment her heart has been with every man and woman who has dedicated and sacrificed their time and personal lives in service of our county. Pletcher stated “They can’t see the yellow ribbons on our cars, but they sure can see the care packages when they get there.”
Dawn also wants to remind everyone that there is a packing event this weekend and people can come and go as they please. it’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They are located at the corner of Main st. and Crafton at 87 Main Street.
Lauren Morral had the opportunity to speak with Cynthia Long and she gave us plenty of great details on the upcoming Winter Jazz Fest that is taking place January 17-19. Friday night guests will have the opportunity to hear Bram Wijnands showcase his techniques in “slide piano” and will play barrel house blues that came into popularity in the thirties and forties. Saturday night the performance will be featuring Terry and Dove Klinefelter Trio. For more information on Goodies For Our Troops and the Winter Jazz Fest, be sure to click on the video link above.
