From Taiwan to Wellsboro

Wellsboro Rotary Foreign Exchange student shares his experience

by Johanna Vogt - MAy 5, 2017

Yvesan Yu is the Wellsboro Rotary Exchange Student who comes from New Taipei City, Taiwan. He came in August 2016 and will going back home to Taiwan in August 2017. Since he has been here, he has enjoyed the numerous opportunities given to him through the Rotary Youth Exchange program. With other foreign exchange students living here in America, he has traveled to many different places each month. They have toured places such as New York City, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia where they have seen amazing sights, met new people, and bonded close together as students experiencing different and new things.

Even though Wellsboro is very different from Taiwan, Yvesan has enjoyed staying here. He enjoys how quiet it is compared to Taiwan. He loves to dance and has had opportunities to teach others “locking”, which is the type of street dancing he mainly does. Yvesan also plays the Erhu (Chinese violin) which is a two-stringed bowed instrument. Yvesan has loved being in America and would love to come back in the future. He is very grateful for his host families and Rotary for providing the opportunity to come and study abroad.
