Build Your Legacy

by John Vogt - December 5, 2018

Southern Tioga School District at North Penn – Mansfield Junior/Senior High school recently encouraged that entrepreneurial spirit that helped make the United States of America a world leader. Students have been working very hard on their “Build Your Legacy” projects.

Home Page Anchor Mataya Nickerson and Home Page Correspondent Katie Mossman cover this special event and do an excellent job getting to the heart of the project. The Southern Tioga School District is zeroing in on one of the most significant challenges facing the future of Tioga County Pennsylvania, which is releasing that free-market entrepreneurial spirit.

The United States Census Bureau states that Tioga County, Pennsylvania ranks in the 23rd percentile for businesses per county in the State. When it comes to business opportunities, Tioga County is statistically at the bottom. It does not have to be this way. Our future here in Tioga County can be as bright as any other region in our State as future generations embrace free market at the entrepreneurial spirit.

The Southern Tioga School District is using programs like “Build Your Legacy” to ignite such a flame. On the day we covered this event our Home Page production crew was amazed at what was going on in the room. Music played in the background has young students worked on their projects. The older students were helping younger students. And, they were actually creating new products before our very eyes! With “Build Your Legacy” students are exposed to all the vital steps of a successful business. These building blocks include thinking about potential needs, doing the research, designing, creating, and even marketing their product ideas.

On today’s broadcast, you will hear from the Ellianna Fry who is the Co-Chair for the “Build Your Legacy” project. Ellianna explains how the project works and why “Build Your Legacy” is so powerful. You will also hear from teacher Ann Kieser. Ann is a business and computer teacher at the school. She is also an FBLA adviser. Ann is extremely enthusiastic about the project and told us how “Build Your Legacy” ties into her dream to inspire students. She has much more to say so don’t miss it!

You will also have the opportunity to meet some of the students and see their project ideas. One of the students, Brody Burleigh, explains his team’s invention, which is a sonic-automatic toothbrush. It’s designed to help older and younger people brush their teeth. It fits in your mouth like a mouth-guard. After you get your teeth into this thing, it triggers the motor, and the unit then brushes your teeth at just the right angles and for the correct amount of time. Sign me up! This kid and his team may be multimillionaires before we know it. And, our teeth will be cleaner and healthier too. Wow, what a great idea. Somebody, please call an investor.

Hats-off to Southern Tioga School District for embracing the “Build Your Legacy” program. We have a feeling that we may be using some of these products in the not too distant future. Please take a few moments to enjoy today’s broadcast and drop us a line or two and let us know your thoughts.
