2015 Tioga Fair Queen Crowned

by Sara Vogt, Jenn Thomas - August 10, 2015

On the first day of the Tioga County Fair we are greeted with a new Fair Queen! She will be present at most of the events this week, celebrating the fair. Five young women of Tioga County entered the competition and one of them was coronated last night. The following candidates included: Darby Kasper (daughter of Bradley and Kathleen Kasper), Taylor Hemenway (daughter of Allyn and Deborah Hemenway), Morgan Koziar (daughter of Jason and Dawn Logsdon), Kimberly Hamilton (daughter of Mark and Barbara Hamilton) and Alexandra Mendez (daughter of Frederick and Annette Mendez). Each of the contestants were required to submit an essay in advance, titled “What My Fair Means to My Community.’ The girls also prepared and presented a 3-5 minute persuasive speech on why you should come to the fair. They were also interviewed by the judges and given a random question to answer. All of these components were judged this year by Stephanie Miller, (Marketing Director for the Corning Gafer District), Wendy Reber (from Wellsboro), and Captain Aaron P. Ohnmeiss (from Charlie Company based out of Wellsboro).

The judges chose Darby Kasper to be the 2015 Tioga County Fair Queen. Darby will receive $500.00 from the Tioga County Fair and a $500.00 scholarship from WOC Energy and a $250.00 clothing allowance from Dunham’s Department Store. She will go on to compete in the State Fair Competition in January at the Hersey Lodge. Her first runner-up was Morgan Koziar and second runner-up was Kimberly Hamilton. Both Morgan and Kimberly will receive $125.00 each.

Retiring 2014 Tioga County Fair Queen Anna Copp encouraged Darby, Morgan and Kimberly to enjoy their time this year.

We want to encourage you to go out to the fair this week! The annual talent show begins tonight at 7:00, where you will have an opportunity to meet Darby, Morgan and Kimberly. Home Page would like to congratulate all of the fair queen candidates who participated and shared their hearts with us.
