Youth Fishing Derby Honors Late Dean Scott
Galeton Parks and Recreation hosted their annual Youth Fishing Derby this Sunday, May 4th. Despite the rainy weather, spirits were high as more than 80 young anglers—15 and under—cast their lines in hopes of landing the big one.
Over 145 fish were caught throughout the day, with the largest—a stunning 18-inch brown trout—reeled in by Owen Mead. Prizes were awarded for the most fish, the first catch, and the largest fish in multiple age categories, with winners taking home tackle boxes, fishing poles, vests, and even a free mount for the biggest catch.
This year’s event was held in memory of Dean Scott, a beloved outdoorsman who passed away unexpectedly. His family attended to honor his legacy and celebrate the next generation of anglers. Galeton Parks and Recreation extended heartfelt thanks to their sponsors and the Dean Scott Memorial Fund for helping make the event possible.
