Woodruff Reaches 1,000 as Towanda Outlasts Canton in Thriller, 48–41

by Wyatt Wood - January 23, 2026

In a game that delivered excitement from start to finish, the Towanda Lady Black Knights edged out the Canton Lady Warriors 48–41 Thursday night in a hard-fought matchup that also marked a historic milestone for Towanda senior Brynn Woodruff.

The evening opened with Canton jumping out early. Towanda struck first when Payton Perry intercepted a pass and drove the lane for the opening basket, but the Lady Warriors quickly answered. Danah Wesneski connected with Alexis McRoberts, who found Daveian Crowley underneath for the layup, igniting Canton’s offense.

Canton continued to apply pressure from long range, highlighted by a three-pointer from Stella Rockwell, and by the end of the first quarter the Lady Warriors held a 16–7 advantage.

Towanda began to shift momentum in the second quarter. Mya Maynard delivered a pass to the top of the key, where Woodruff knocked down a jumper to spark a surge. Woodruff followed with another midrange basket, then buried back-to-back jumpers to push the Lady Black Knights ahead.

At halftime, Towanda had clawed its way to a narrow 21–20 lead.

The third quarter featured tight, back-and-forth play. Reese Sullivan found space at the top of the key for an easy two, while Canton’s Caitlyn VanNoy answered with a key steal and fast-break layup to keep the Lady Warriors within striking distance. Towanda carried a slim 35–33 edge into the final quarter.

Early in the fourth, Woodruff delivered the moment of the night. Receiving the ball near the foul line, she split two defenders and finished an underhanded layup — the basket that secured her 1,000th career point. Play was briefly halted as the crowd celebrated the milestone.

Fueled by the moment, Towanda pulled away down the stretch, maintaining composure and extending its lead to secure the 48–41 victory.

The Canton Lady Warriors return to action Friday afternoon in Montgomery, while the Towanda Lady Black Knights will host Northeast Bradford on Tuesday.
