Winter Swim Team Finds Success!

Including 9 reg season wins and 585 personal bests

by Paul Kurtz - March 12, 2020

The winter competitive swim season started in October 2019 and will conclude on the 3rd weekend in March 2020. This is a long 22 week season where our area youth come together as members of the Wellsboro Parks & Recreation Winter Swim program by competing on the Jersey Shore YMCA competitive Swim Team. The Jersey Shore YMCA swim team has 78 male and female competing swimmers distributed across 10 age groups ranging in ages from 5 to 18 years old. The team competes in the YMCA Central district of Pennsylvania. Competitive swimming is all about setting a personal baseline time for each competitive event (measured in seconds) and then trying to better your personal best recorded time. Regular season meet scoring is determined by individual swimmers earning points for each event finishing place in an age-group. The age-group winner is awarded 1 point for each of the 10 competing age-groups. For the Season Stats:

Wellsboro P&R swimmers = 33
Jersey Shore swimmers = 45
