White Team Wins Devin K. Webster Memorial Alumni Game
The first annual Devin K. Webster Memorial Alumni Soccer game took place last Saturday. Male and female graduates of Wellsboro High school, and family of Devin, participated. Even-year graduating alumni wore green, while the odd years wore white. A $20 donations was requested to participate, with all proceeds being donated to the Devin K. Webster Memorial Scholarship Award.
The memorial game’s first goal was made with 17 minutes and 35 seconds remaining in the first half. Zach Singer collects the ball in traffic, and then sends it to the far side net. White leads, 1-0 at halftime. The second score for the white team came 5 minutes into the second half as Brett Rudy breaks down the defense, dribbles into the box and has a shot. The Odd Years score again off a handballl in the box penalty kick, shot by Singer. 3-0, white. Next – off a missed opportunity, Cam Tennis fields the ball inside the box, crosses it to Kayden Mann for the keeper beater. Finally, with 12 minutes remaining in regulation, the Even Years’ Cody DeHaas receives the ball in mid, chips the defense to Dalton Prough who slow rolls the keeper. Toward the end of the game, I stopped the odds from getting any more goals. Josiah Hill on a breakaway and I snag that sucker. Don’t mind if I do. But in the end, after a fun and competitive match, white team came out on top, 4-1.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this amazing fundraising event. We hope everyone who came out this year and more will return for next year’s game.
