Wellsboro XC Preview 2017
Cross Country season is upon us and the Hornets are ready to run through their competition.
Head Coach: Ron Brought (3rd year, 16-5 boys, 17-4 girls)
2016 Season Records: 9-1 boys, 8-2 girls
Key Returners: Connor Brought, Aidan Perry, Kara Doane, Anna Bleggi
Players to Watch: Aidan Perry, Anna Bleggi
The Hornets bring back all but two of last season’s runners, so 2017 should be the year of the Hornet. Wellsboro has the perfect mix of experience and youth to make a run at both the NTL and District IV titles.
Last season Aidan Perry qualified for States as a sophomore with a 5th place finish at Districts, and with the junior hitting his stride, he will be Wellsboro’s top finisher this season. Connor Brought will also be a strong contributor this season as he had six top-10 finishes last year while dropping a minute off his time from the beginning of the season. Also look for sophomore Lucas Citrino to make an impact with a year under his belt.
For the girls senior Anna Bleggi brings this most experience to this year’s team, but juniors Rachel Chamberlain and Kara Doane have had solid finishes during 2016. Bleggi had six top-4 finishes last season and just missed the cut to qualify for States. Bleggi will be a force to reckon with across the NTL and will be one of the league’s top runners.
Coming off solid 2016 NTL performances with a 2nd place finish for the boys and 3rd place finish for the girls. This year, the Hornets are looking to dethrone league favorite Northeast Bradford.
Wellsboro begins their season today in Wyalusing at the Lasagna Invite.
