Wellsboro Wrestling Preview 2016

by Ed Weaver - December 6, 2016

The 2016 wrestling season is quickly approaching, and the Hornets are back on the mat gearing up for their opening match.

Head Coach: Scott Ingerick (4th year, 3-49)
2015 Season Record: 2-15
Key Returners: Caleb Sinkler, Robert Brown, Hunter Brown
Player(s) to Watch: Kaleb Smith, Aidan Hauser

The Hornets lost leading individual match winner Owen Covert (18) to graduation, but Caleb Sinkler won 11 matches last year and returns for his senior season. The Hornets are a young team again this year and only have 9 members this year (2 seniors), but all got significant experience last year.

Wellsboro has struggled with wins the past two seasons, mainly due to their lack of numbers and injuries, but the entire team wrestled hard every match. Last year 4 members of the team recorded 9 or more individual wins, and two of those team members, sophomores Robert and Hunter Brown, are back and should improve upon their freshman year totals.

With Nick Ingerick bumping up to heavyweight, that opens the door for Kaleb Smith at 220 lbs. Smith was injured for the majority of last season, but won 14 matches as a sophomore, and will definitely help the Hornets out. With Brown and Brown having another year of experience under their belts at 182 and 195 lbs., and the addition of freshman Aidan Hauser this year, look for the Hornets to give NTL teams a run for their money.
