Wellsboro Track & Field 1st Meet

The Wellsboro track and field teams had their first home meet on Thursday, April 16 against the Sayre Redskins, with both teams coming home victorious. The girls won 96.5-44.5 to improve to 3-1 on the year, while the boys won 90-51 for their second consecutive win.

Sayre’s Nick Sweet won the 3200m run in 11:24 for the boys and Wellsboro’s Anna Bleggi won for the girls in 13:35. Sayre won both 4x800m relays, Wellsboro’s Jack Chambers won the 110m hurdles in 18.5 seconds, and Haley Zuchowski was second in the 100m hurdles at 17.73 behind Sayre’s Mia Rivera.

Micahel Pietropola (12.14) and Nick Marple (12.14) swept the boys 100m run and Jada Jackson (13.45) and Lauren Bleggi (14.07) did the same thing on the girls side.

Sayre took both 1600m and 400m runs, while Chambers and Zuchowski each won the 300m hurdles. Wellsboro’s Camryn Keane won the girls’ 800m run in 2:46, Brieux Thibaut and Lauren Bleggi each won the 200m for the Hornets, and Sayre took home both 4x400m relays.

Marple won the high jump at 5 ft 8 in and Raisa Rogers cleared 5 ft 1 in to win on the girls side. Pietropola won the long jump at 19 ft 1.5 in and Jackson won for the girls at 16 ft 3.5 in. Wellsboro’s Rich Tardieu won the boys triple jump at 38 ft 1.5 in and Jackson won for the girls at 36 ft 7.5 in, and Joey Taft took home the girls pole vault.

Sayre swept the top spots in the discus and Wellsboro’s Brandon Lamphier and Sayre’s Molly Ball took home the top spot in the javelin.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday, April 21 as they host Canton and Towanda.
