According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey – every two minutes, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted.
Haven is a private, non-profit organization committed to helping ALL individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence here in Tioga County. Home Page’s Sarah Vickery had the opportunity to visit Haven and speak with the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, Christina Rinnert and the Executive Coordinator, Karen Harvey, about violence and abuse in our area. Haven provides aid to men, women, and children, regardless of age, sex, class, ethnic background, or sexual orientation. Some of their services include: 24 hour rape/abuse hotline – advocacy – children’s programs. – legal and medical assistance and counseling. They also offer emergency housing through the Hope House. All of their services are free and confidential.
If you or a loved one has been a victim of domestic or sexual violence, please call Haven at 570-724-3549, or the Crisis Hotline at 1-800-550-0447. Or visit their website at www.havenoftiogacounty.org.
