by Home Page Staff - March 4-5, 2017

On the Radar – Scam Protection
Fraud costs Americans billions of dollars each year. Scams and fraud are also one of the most reported crimes and most requested informational topics.

Many are familiar with this scam in which a caller purports to be from the IRS advising that you owe money and it needs to be paid immediately. They often request personal information such as Social Security number or your Social Security Number. They may threaten you with police action if payment is not received immediately.
Be aware that the IRS will serve you notice via mail for any outstanding debt and they will always provide you with the opportunity to appeal that debt. Also, they will not threaten you with police action.
Hornets Fall in Double Header
An 18-6 third quarter by Southern Columbia doomed the Wellsboro Boys Basketball team in a 52-45 loss in the District IV Class AAA semi-finals at Williamsport Area High School on Tuesday, February 28.

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team had their chance of playing a a second straight District IV title fall to the wayside in a 32-24 loss to Hughesville in the Class AAA semi-finals at Williamsport Area High School on Tuesday, February 28
Award-winning Social Worker Shares Her Passion
Throughout the month of March, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is celebrating Social Work Month 2017 with their “Social Workers Stand Up” campaign.

For over 25 years, oncology social worker June Zimmerman has done just that. As a member of the Cancer Care Team at UPMC Susquehanna Cancer Centers, June has joined her team members to bring hope and healing to patients and their families.

In January, June was one of six outstanding individuals honored with the American Cancer Society Lane W. Adams Quality of Life Award, a prestigious national honor for their leadership in serving the complex needs of cancer patients and their families.
Explore the Night Sky!
How often do you look up at the night sky and wonder what an especially bright object is? This past weekend about 150 people of all ages visited the George Strait Planetarium at Mansfield University to marvel at the wonders of the night sky. This free program was provided by the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Mansfield University, along with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

To schedule a planetarium show for a school, church, or other activity group, or for more information about upcoming shows, please contact Dr. Elaine Farkas at 570-662-4754.
