Home Owner’s Tips: Defeat Winter
The days may be getting longer but winter is far from over. Homes across the area are experiencing challenges that may not have been issues for years in a winter that the 2018 Farmer’s Almanac is calling, “much colder than last year’s.”

Below freezing temperatures are forecasted to continue throughout February and March. Winterizing our homes is a good idea any time of the year since it protects in the winter and saves us money on cooling costs in the warmer months.

“The main thing you want to do is check all the pipes and make sure they are insulated,” advises Ryan Jones, owner and operator of Ryan Jones General Contracting. He offered many helpful tips on today’s feature when he stopped by the studio.

Local Spotlight: Mary Wells Tea Room
Peggy’s Candies & Gifts has been a popular shopping location for sweet treats since it opened in 1987. But their recent expansion, Peggy’s Bake Shoppe (neighboring the candy store) began just this past December – and it’s already a town favorite. “We wanted to use this space a little differently from the rest of the bake shop,” says owner and operator, Mary Jarreau. “While children are enjoying the front [of the store], parents can come to the back and enjoy a little quieter setting to read, use a computer, or just relax and have tea.”

Artist Spotlight: Escape From Latvia
Welcome to another Writer, Artist and Crafters’ Spotlight and thank you for joining us on the Home Page Network.

Our feature author today is local resident Baiba Kreger who in 2008 published her autobiographical memoir My Heritage, My Destiny which tells the story of a family in Latvia at the beginning of the World War II just before the country was invaded by Russia and then occupied by Germany.

“I wrote this book so my children and grandchildren will know something about their heritage, “wrote Baiba who came here to Tioga County as a ten year old refugee from the country Latvia in 1950.

Dr. Mayo – The Keys to Communicate
Communication is a necessity. It’s how we connect with others, share information, learn, educate, show affection. The majority of our communication is nonverbal, but this does not minimize the significance of verbal communication. When we talk with others, what we say, how we say it, and even how we listen, are integral to connecting with others. Thus, we need to be intentional about doing it well.
