Wellsboro Girls Soccer Season Preview 2016
The 2016 girls soccer season is quickly approaching, and the Wellsboro Lady Hornets are anxious to get going.
Head Coach: TJ Freeman (1st year)
2015 Season Record: 11-7-2
Key Returners: Kelsey Logan, Kailee Clymer, Julia Smith, Emma Poirier
Player(s) to Watch: Kelsey Logan, Kailee Clymer, Julia Smith
The Lady Hornets won the program’s first ever District playoff game last season, but lost 11 seniors off of last year’s team.
Wellsboro returns sophomores Julia Smith and Emma Poirier, last year’s second-leading goal scorers, along with senior Kelsey Logan. All three are dynamic scorers that can quickly change the game, and will have to do so for young Lady Hornets. On the defensive side of the ball Kailee Clymer returns in net. The junior allowed 29 goals in 1,631 minutes and recorded an incredible 205 saves with 6 shutouts.
Wellsboro has not won an NTL title since the 2006-07 season. While Athens will be the team to beat again this season, look for the young Lady Hornets to compete and potentially be among the top teams in the league.
