Wellsboro Dominates Senior Night with 55-8 Rout Over Northwest

by Wyatt Wood - October 20, 2025

The Wellsboro Hornets gave their fans a Senior Night to remember on Friday, unleashing a first-half scoring storm that buried the Northwest Area Rangers, 55-8. By halftime, the scoreboard already told the story — 55 unanswered points — as the Hornets controlled every inch of the field in a statement win.

The fireworks started on the opening kickoff when Max Mascho fielded the ball, found a lane up the sideline, and never looked back — an 83-yard touchdown to set the tone. Finn Matthews tacked on the extra point to make it 7-0.

Moments later, quarterback Griffin Morral faked a screen and launched a perfect fade to Marek Mascho for another score, extending the lead to 14-0. Marek wasn’t done — a few minutes later he powered into the end zone again on an inside run to make it 20-0.

The defense joined the party as Kody Enck read a short pass and snagged an interception, setting up Cole Knapp, who broke multiple tackles on a tough outside run for yet another touchdown. By the end of the first quarter, Wellsboro was cruising at 27-0.

Early in the second, Morral rolled out and found Max Mascho again for a 39-yard strike — a milestone play that pushed Morral over 1,000 passing yards for the second consecutive season, making him the only Hornet quarterback to do so as both a freshman and sophomore.

Dylan Copp added a bruising touchdown run to make it 41-0, followed by another score from Kody Enck, who burned the defense on a motion handoff. The finishing blow came courtesy of Marek Mascho, slicing through defenders for a 52-yard run — his third touchdown of the night and a performance that pushed him past 1,000 all-purpose yards on the season.

Northwest managed to find the end zone once in the third quarter, but the outcome was long decided. Final score: Wellsboro 55, Northwest 8.

The Hornets will be back in action next Friday when they travel to face rival North Penn-Mansfield for the Morton F. Jones Memorial Trophy Game.
