Wellsboro Defeats North Penn-Mansfield in the 2025 Morton F. Jones Memorial Trophy Game

On Friday October 24th the North Penn-Mansfield Panthers hosted the Wellsboro Hornets on the Gridiron in island park for the Morton F Jones Memorial Trophy game. It was senior night for the Panthers and members of the band and cheer squad were recognized before the game started. The hornets went on to dominate both sides of the ball coming out on top 48-10

The Panthers got on the board first on kickoff return as Luke Kreger fields the ball finds a seem and goes coast to coast the kick was good Panther start the scoring 7-0. Late in the first quarter the hornets respond as Griffin moral rolls left and airs it out to Gideon Lawton. Finn Matthew’s kick was good tiring the score up 7 all.

Next with just over 5 minutes left before halftime the hornets get into the red zone then mortal sticks to the skies as he finds Dylan Copp for the score. The kick was good Wellsboro on top 14-7. 3 minutes later hornets wrestle the ball back and line up on the panther 40 mortal sends the big ball to sideline of the end zone Marek Masco brings it down for the touchdown. Wellsboro lines up for the point after attempt and goes for two as Marek takes the snap and calls his own number to cross the goal line Wellsboro running away with the ball game 22-7. North Penn Mansfield put up their final 3 points of the game as Wellsboro forced them to kick a field goal Brody Grinnell splits the uprights making the score 22-10 Wellsboro still on top.

The hornets went on to dominate both sides of the ball until the end of regulation winning the ball game 48-10 and bringing home the Morton F. Jones trophy for the first time in the current senior class career. This concludes the normal season for both teams but the hornets will be back in action for the first week of district playoffs this Friday on the road at Alperon park to face the Troy Trojans.
