Wellsboro Boys Soccer Dominates Troy in 7-0 Shutout
The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night, September 1st, shutting out the visiting Troy Trojans, 7-0.
After roughly an hour-long rain delay, the Hornets wasted little time finding the back of the net. About ten minutes into the match, Liam Stevens crossed the ball to Mason Brill, who finished with a sliding shot to give Wellsboro the early lead.
Wellsboro continued to control the action, and with 20 minutes remaining in the first half, Gabe Cuneo made a move toward the corner before centering the ball to Maddon Mascho. Mascho fired a shot into the upper ninety to extend the Hornets’ advantage.
Just three minutes later, Mascho nearly found the net again, one-timing a shot toward the keeper. The attempt was deflected, but Callen Novak was there to crash in and finish the rebound.
The Hornets continued applying pressure throughout the half, adding another goal with just under seven minutes remaining. Cuneo sent the ball toward the frame, and as Troy defenders attempted to clear it, Stevens delivered a spectacular backwards, no-look finish to make it 4-0.
Wellsboro added three more goals in the second half to complete the dominant 7-0 victory over Troy.
The Hornets will return to action Thursday, September 3rd, when they travel to take on the Towanda Black Knights.
