Wellsboro Alumni Honor Devin K. Webster’s Memory

by Wyatt Wood - August 4, 2025

The turf at Wellsboro High School came alive Saturday evening as former Hornets from across the years reunited for the second annual Devin K. Webster Memorial Alumni Game. The event brought together past players to honor the memory of Devin Webster, a beloved member of the Wellsboro community, through the sport he loved.

As tradition holds, alumni were divided by graduation year—even years donning green, and odd years wearing white. After a heartfelt introduction that announced each participant’s graduating class, the game kicked off.

After a tightly contested start, Brett Rudy broke the deadlock with a stunning strike from 30 yards out, firing into the far post with just over 23 minutes remaining in the first half.

Only four minutes later, Josiah Hill beat a defender and made a clean break toward goal, extending the white team’s lead to 2–0. Maciah Fitch then added another before the half, sending the white team into halftime with a commanding 3–0 lead.

Shortly after play resumed, Emma Poirier delivered one of the most memorable moments of the evening with a gorgeous shot tucked just under the crossbar, bringing the score to 4–0 in favor of the odd-year squad.

But the green team wasn’t done yet. Noah Fitch weaved through defenders and placed a shot far side to put green on the board, narrowing the gap to 4–1.

With under 11 minutes to play, Eli Cothean added another for the white team, calmly controlling the ball deep in the box and finishing past the keeper to make it 5–1.

Finally, with just four minutes remaining, Noah Fitch struck again for the green team, showcasing his speed and finishing ability to cap the game at 5–2.

It was a spirited contest from both sides, marked by impressive play and an even stronger sense of community.

A heartfelt thank you to all players, volunteers, and supporters who made this special event possible in memory of Devin K. Webster.
