At 7:30 p.m. this Friday, July 20, the Endless Mountain Music Festival opens its 13th Season with Legends of the Silver Screen in Steadman Theatre on the Mansfield University campus in Mansfield.

Film clips will be projected on two big movie screens as the 62-member Festival Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser performs musical selections from 11 different films. Among them are: “Star Wars: Episode II,” “Superman,” “West Side Story,” “Titanic,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “Camelot” and “Dr. Zhivago.” Youngsters will receive a free Superman cape. Adults in costume will be admitted free. Adults who do not wear a costume will be admitted for half price if accompanied by children who do.

The music continues at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 with Gunzenhauser, festival founder and producer, conducting the orchestra at the Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium in Corning, New York. Featured in the performance of Shostakovich’s “Piano Concerto #1 in C minor, Op 35” will be Luis Engelke on trumpet and Asiya Korepanova at the piano. The orchestra with Doris Hall-Gulati on clarinet and Jessica Wilbee on harp will play Ravel’s “Introduction and Allegro for Harp, Flute, Clarinet and Strings” and with Brent Edmondson on double bass will perform Koussevitzky’s “Double Bass Concerto in F-sharp minor, Op. 3.”

At 7:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, July 22-26 will be five chamber concerts.

The first chamber concert will be on Sunday, July 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wellsboro. Works by two Russian masters, Arensky’s “Piano Quintet in D Major, Op. 51” and Shostakovich’s “Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 57” will be performed by Russian pianist Asiya Korepanova, violinists Diana Seitz and Alla Wijnands, violist Ignacio Cuello and cellist Gita Ladd.

On Monday, July 23, the Festival Brass Quintet will play at the Rockwell Museum in Corning, New York. This concert is free. Those with concert tickets who pre-register by calling 570-787-7800 can attend a free, pre-concert wine and cheese tasting. Rebecca Dodson-Webster on French horn, Thomas Cook and Luis Engelke on trumpet, Kevin Ladd on tuba and David Sciannella on trombone with Simon Bjarning on percussion will open this chamber concert with Mouret’s “Rondeau” from “Première Suite de Symphonies,” the theme of public television’s “Masterpiece Theater.” Also to be performed will be music from HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” excerpts from Bizet’s opera “Carmen,” Sousa’s march “The Thunderer” and selections by Bach, Mozart, King Henry VIII, Ravel, Calvert and da Silva.

Across the Pond, an award-winning, popular Celtic band, is returning to the festival for the third time. Joining the three native Pennsylvanians for this Tuesday, July 24 concert in the Deane Center at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro will be singer Marilyn Dally and step dancing champion Emily Warren. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Warren will teach step dancing in the lobby to anyone interested in learning how to do it. At 7:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Theatre, Dally and the band will perform arrangements of Irish and Scottish tunes as Warren dances. The music will include hauntingly slow airs to fast-moving jigs and reels, love ballads and traditional and contemporary songs.

The Festival String Trio, including pianist Matthew Graybil, cellist Mark Kosmala, and violinist Alla Wijnands will perform works by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich in the Knoxville Yoked Church at 110 Alba Street on Wednesday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. This concert is free.

At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26 in the Tioga County Courthouse at 118 Main Street in Wellsboro will be a performance by the dynamic duo of Matthew Graybil at the piano and Gita Ladd on cello. They will announce their selections that night.

Mansfield University Choral Activities Director Peggy Dettwiler will conduct the Symphony Festival Orchestra, MU Concert Choir, Festival Chorus and Choral Academy voice students as they perform “In Windsor Forest” in Steadman Theatre on the MU campus on Friday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. Maestro Gunzenhauser, festival founder and producer, will then conduct the orchestra for the Pennsylvania premiere of Óscar Navarro’s rhythmic and energetic “Paconchita” followed by Peck’s “The Glory and the Grandeur” with its spectacular visual effects and sound provided by fast-paced percussionists Joe Turner, Simon Bjarning and John Allis as they play more than 120 different percussion instruments.

At the Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium on Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m., the orchestra will perform “Overture” to Wagner’s “Rienzi,” Mozart’s “Bassoon Concerto in B-flat Major, K.191 with Robin Plant on bassoon and Doris Hall-Gulati on clarinet; and Prokofiev’s “Symphony No. 5, in B-flat major, Op. 100.”

Chamber concerts will continue nightly Sunday, July 29 through Thursday, Aug. 2 with the festival ending with Symphony Orchestra Concerts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3 in Mansfield, Pa. and Saturday, Aug. 4 in Corning, New York.

Youth, 20 and under, are admitted free to all festival concerts. The six symphony orchestra concerts are $39 per person. The chamber concerts are $30 per person. A flex pass to attend any six festival concerts is $150. A season pass is $250.
