The Weekly Highlights 09/08/14 – 09/12/14

A look at this week's highlights on Wellsboro Home Page

by Home Page Staff - September 13, 2014

It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

The Hornets played their first home game of the season on Friday night and they came ready to play. The Hornets displayed a balanced attack on offense and complimented it with a strong defense.

Michael Pietropola led all passers going 10-19 for 249 yards and 3 touchdowns. Levi Mack rushed for 50 yards. Nick Levindoski had 5 carries for 24 yards and Michael Pietropola had a rushing touchdown. Nick Marple led all receivers with 5 receptions, 121 yards, and 1 touchdown. Tony Cooper and Nick Levindoski hauled in a touchdown.

For the Muncy Indians, Quarterback Jeff Fry went 9-15 for 92 yards and 1 interception. Raymond Stidfole had 4 carries and 11 yards. Preston Bitler had 1 reception for 11 yards and Kody Minnier had 4 receptions for 70 yards.

The Hornets defeated the Indians 31-0. The Hornets are now 2-0 and have not given up a score in two games. Wellsboro hits the road this weekend where they will face Bucktail and look to keep the undefeated streak alive.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Blossburg, Pennsylvania had their bell go silent about 35 years ago. Due to mechanical failure and constant repairs the church decided not to fix it. It was no longer a priority.

About a year ago Pastor Humbert arrived. The Lord certainly knew who to send, because Pastor Humbert happens to have a love for church bells and what they represent. When he found out that the church actually had a bell in their tower he began to encourage church members to go forward with the necessary repairs that would allow that bell to ring again.

It is inspiring to know that this Saturday, September 13th – for the first time in nearly 35 years – the church bell at the Seventh Day Adventist Church will ring again. You are invited to join the congregation as they celebrate this inaugural event.

For some of us, playing “dress up” was one of our favorite childhood memories. As we grow older, our opportunities to have light-hearted fun seems limited. The good news is – on October 11th, starting at noon and lasting until 2:00pm – The Fifth Season presents the fourth annual hat show with Christine Moore. This will be a time of relaxation, laughter, and an opportunity to enjoy great food from The Red Skillet. Christine is a renown hat designer who has worked hard at her craft of millinery and has achieved notable recognition for her designs. For more information on ordering your tickets you can call (570) 724-6910 or visit The Fifth Season on Main Street in Wellsboro.

On September 11, 2001 at 8:46 AM – I was wrapping up the morning show in our Nation’s Capital area at Seven Locks Broadcasting when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. At first I thought that is must have been a small private aircraft that had run into some kind of trouble. A few moments later at 9:03 AM, United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South tower of the World Trade Center and we knew immediately we had a serious problem.

The Wellsboro Growers Market grows on! Home page correspondent, Johanna Vogt had the opportunity to talk with Thomas Putnam about the latest news on the Market. The Growers Market has a lot of things to offer to our community. All the products are local, from vegetables and herbs to maple syrup and fresh baked goods. The Wellsboro Grower’s Market is running every Thursday from 3-6PM at the First Presbyterian Church until the end of October. It will take place inside the Church after October 9th to assure a great market experience, even if we have inclement weather.
