The Weekly Highlights 05/19/14 – 05/23/14

A look at this week's highlights on Wellsboro Home Page

by Home Page Staff - May 24, 2014

Happy Weekend, Tioga County! It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

Wellsboro High school students Nick Levindoski and Nick Marple learned a lot from the Wellsboro Police Department’s Ride-Along program. This program has been in existence for over 20 years and has been well received by educators, parents, law enforcement officials and students alike. Students ride along with the Wellsboro Police Department for approximately two hours of an officer’s shift. During those two hours anything can happen, setting up a perfect learning experience for the students.

The Wellsboro High School Alumni Association will host the annual Alumni Banquet on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 5 p.m. The Alumni Association was formed in 1867, and has been holding the annual banquet for 137 years. If your graduation year ends with a 4 or 9, you are invited to attend this year’s banquet.

Her grandchildren call her Sumu, her friends call her Nat – but we think her real name is FUN. Wellsboro Home Page had the privilege of interviewing Natalie W. Quinn. She is an author of wonderful children’s stories, a seasoned broadcaster and a skillful communicator with a big heart for kids. She dedicates the stories she writes and produces to the parents of children everywhere who want to see their sons and daughters grow and develop in the gift of imagination.

Homelessness is not just a city problem. It’s happening right now in Tioga County.

TCHI’s (Tioga County Homeless Initiative) mission is to establish and operate a centrally located Tioga County Homeless Shelter supported by a faith-based network of churches and organizations. Whose goal is to help homeless families and individuals have a warm, safe place to sleep.

For more information about TCHI you can go to their website at or by calling (570) 439-9383 (ask for Abby.)

Wellsboro Johnston Airport is hosting their annual Fly-In Breakfast on Sunday, May 25th. This unique event is a great opportunity to enjoy delicious pancakes, admire beautiful airplanes, meet new people and soar in the Tioga County skies! Breakfast is served at 8:00am until 12:00 p.m.

Wellsboro Home Page will also be providing highlight coverage of the upcoming Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally! This unique racing event takes place every year and brings in drivers and spectators from all over the world. There’s plenty to do and see during this racing weekend! This year’s rally will be held on May 30 & 31. For more information, visit!

Home Page would like to encourage you to attend the Memorial Day Procession that will begin at 10am at the Green in Wellsboro. The procession will depart from the Green at 10:30 a.m. and will end with a ceremony next to the main flagpole at the Wellsboro Cemetery.
