Weekly Highlights – 08/01/16 – 08/05/16

A look at this week’s highlights (and bloopers!) on Wellsboro Home Page

by Home Page Staff - August 6-7, 2016

It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.
Recordings are wonderful but nothing compares to the full, rich, audio and visual expression of live music. EMMF Conductor and Music Director Stephen Gunzenhauser applauded the audience after Friday evening’s performance. He said that the audience was feeding back into the energy of the orchestra. This is one of the components that makes the live experience unique and unforgettable. There is so much more energy than you can ever experience listing to a recording. If you have not yet attended a live Endless Mountain Music Festival concert we encourage you to do so. You will not be disappointed. There is nothing like live!
This year the Tioga County Fair celebrates 50 years. One of the important events leading up to the launch of the fair is the selection of the new fair queen. This important pre-fair event took place this past Sunday, July 31st.

Darby Kasper, the 2016 Pennsylvania State Fair Queen, and Morgan Koziar, the 2015 Tioga County Fair Queen, crowned the new Tioga County fair queen, Morgan Cady, who will be reigning over this year’s events.
Today on The GrubCast – meet a character who’s appeared in over 200 video games since his creation, has starred in a series that has sold over 210 million units and is currently the best-selling video game franchise of all time. Today we’re talking about the one and only mustache-wearing Italian plumber hero – Mario!

Mario first appeared in the 1981 Nintendo arcade game titled Donkey Kong. The game was originally going to feature the characters Popeye, Bluto and Olive Oyl, but Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto wasn’t able to acquire the license to use those characters. Therefore, Miyamoto created Jumpman (later known as Mario)!
It’s that time again! Come one, come all…and step right up- It’s First Friday!
We’ve got lots of music downtown this month in many varied styles: Acoustic, Folk, Bluegrass, Singer/songwriter, a Capella, violin and Ukuleles!
Jesse Gotschal (The Road Virus) will be at Pop’s Culture Shoppe.

Pop’s Culture Shoppe: Let the games begin! Pop’s will host the opening ceremonies for their Summer Games Olympics, and you’ll have your first opportunity to score points in the Olympic Ring Toss!
You can enjoy all that and plenty more at First Friday!
