Weekly Highlights – 05/16/16 – 05/20/16

It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

NTL TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP
The Northern Tier League held their track and field championships on Saturday, May 14 at Athens Area High School, with the host Wildcats winning both the men’s and women’s titles.

On the girls side, Wellsboro finished in 4th, followed by Northern Tioga in 5th and North Penn-Mansfield was 8th. In the boys meet Northern Tioga finished 6th, Wellsboro tied for 8th with Sayre, and North Penn-Mansfield was 10th.

THE GRUBCAST – FROM RUSSIA WITH FUN
TRIVIA TIME! What video game has sold more copies than any other in history?

The answer is: Tetris! Tetris has sold more units than any other game in history, reason being that it’s available on virtually EVERY system – and even some other electronics like programmable calculators, mobile phones, music players and PDA’s. The game has sold over 495 million copies.

LADY HORNETS WALK-OFF OVER NEB
Sophomore Kailee Clymer hit a two-run walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Wellsboro Softball team a 4-3 win over Northeast Bradford on Tuesday, May 17.
The win improves the Division 1 champion’s record to 15-3. The team will be back in action on Thursday, May 19 as they host South Williamsport.

FOREMAN & COVERT CONT. ATHLETIC CAREERS
Two Wellsboro seniors announced their plans to continue their athletic careers on Tuesday, May 17.
Shyann Foreman will attend Division III Thiel College to play tennis, while Owen Covert will attend Lycoming College for football.

HORNETS CRUSH SW, 12-3 ON SENIOR NIGHT
The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team continued their hot streak with a 12-3 win over South Williamsport on Thursday, May 19 during Senior Night.
The Hornets have now won six consecutive games since dropping three in a row the beginning of the month.
The win improves the Hornets’ record to 12-7 overall. The team will resume a rain-stopped game with Coudersport later this afternoon to close out the regular season before starting District IV playoffs next week.
