Warriors run all over North Penn-Mansfield

by Ed Weaver - August 30, 2021

The Canton Warriors defeated the North Penn-Mansfield Panthers on their home field on Saturday afternoon, August 28, 48-7.

The Warriors dominated early scoring 35 first-half points while holding the visiting Panthers scoreless until late in the game.

Canton put up the game’s 1st points as Michael Davis rushed in from 4 yards out following a nice punt return by Riley Parker. The Warriors then went to their hurry up offense, which wore down the Panther defense, and scored four times in the 2nd quarter. Cooper Kitchen had a 2-yard run with 9:12 left to play, followed by Bailey Ferguson scoring on a 7-yard run with 5:37 remaining. Parker returned a punt 54-yard to the house with 4:01 left, followed by an Austin Allen 31-yard reception with 34 seconds to go.

Canton started the second half the same way they did the first, quickly. On their opening drive they marched down field and scored on a 12-yard run by Parker to make it 41-0 after the ensuing extra point failed. Canton added one more score with the running clock midway through the 4th on a 3-yard run by Davis.

North Penn-Mansfield was able to mount a scoring drive late in the game to avoid the shutout. After two outside wide receiver screens and a deep pass to Cameron Fabian, QB Karson Dominick connected with Eli Shaw on a fade pattern into the end zone with 1:45 remaining in the game.

Eight different backs carried the ball for Canton, led by Wes Bellows’ 76 yards on seven carries. Fellow back Riley Parker had seven rushes for 42 yards and score, while Bailey Ferguson had 34 yards and a touchdown on five carries and Michael Davis had four touches for two touchdowns and 36 yards.

Quarterback Cooper Kitchen ran the ball seven times for 54 yards and a touchdown, while also going 2-for-6 through the air for a touchdown to Austin Allen.

Canton (1-0, 1-0 NTL Large School Division) hosts Towanda this coming Friday evening while North Penn-Mansfield (0-1, 0-1 NTL Large School Division) hosts Wyaluinsg at Island Park.
