WARRIORS CENTRAL: STAFF APPRECIATION
Honoring the Heart of Our District: Bus Drivers, Administrative Assistants,
and Volunteers
This week, the Canton Area School District extends gratitude far beyond the classrooms. While teachers and administrators often receive well-deserved recognition, this spring we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible team members who keep our district running smoothly every day: our bus drivers, administrative assistants, and dedicated volunteers.
The First and Last Face of Our School Day: Bus Drivers
Each school day begins and ends with our exceptional transportation team. Snow, rain or shine, our bus drivers navigate with unwavering dedication, ensuring that over 812 students arrive safely to their educational destinations for the Canton Area School District.
“Our drivers do so much more than transport students,” says Business Manager Mark Jannone. “They’re the first to greet our students in the morning and the last to send them off for home in the afternoon. Drivers create a positive environment that sets the tone for the entire school day.”
Bus Contractor and Driver Mark McMurray, embodies this spirit of care.
“On my route, I know every child by name and most of their parents too,” McMurray shares. “As a driver, you become part of their lives. I love my job and I have loved it for 44 years. I do have to say this year, this bus run is the best group I have ever had on my bus!” Bus drivers are an important part of the school family. If you have your CDL and are interested in learning about becoming a bus driver please feel free to contact bus contractors Mark McMurray 570-582-6207 or Alicia Jennings 570-419-1980.
Our Administrative Assistants: Central Command
At the center of every school’s daily operations stands an administrative assistant—the true center around which our education community revolves. These multitasking professionals serve as the vital connection point linking students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members in a seamless network of communication and support.
“They’re so friendly with the parents that come in and with all of the students, all the time.” shared Canton Elementary Principal Mr. Mike Wells, “They do a great job connecting with everyone they come in contact with. These dedicated professionals manage a dizzying array of responsibilities: they maintain precise records, orchestrate complex schedules, distribute critical information, secure the building, welcome visitors, and somehow still manage to learn every student’s name. Their unique position at the center of school life gives them an unique perspective on the entire school system. Canton JR/SR High School Principal, Mr. Donnie Jacopetti describes, “They make our office run, if the secretaries aren’t in line with what we are doing – it is a tough day. They always know what we are doing for the day and help things run smoothly.”
Administrative Professionals Week (April 21-25) will feature appreciation activities for these essential employees.
The Vital Support Network: Our Volunteers
The generosity of our community volunteers enriches our schools in countless ways. From classroom helpers and library assistants to PTA leaders and event coordinators, these dedicated individuals donate thousands of hours annually to support our educational mission.
“The thing that really really blesses my heart is to see the children that are struggling with some things to finally light up, and they’ve got it!” shares Joan Williams. During National Volunteer Week (April 14-20), CASD honored their volunteers, “I just enjoy the kids, after driving a bus for thirty years, volunteering is the other end of it, and it is really rewarding.” shared Canton Elementary School volunteer, Eric Anderson. Eric formerly served as a bus driver, bus contractor, and school director.
Join Us in Saying Thank You
The Canton Area School District invites our entire community to join in expressing gratitude to these vital team members. Students are creating thank-you cards, tokens of appreciation, and the district facebook now features posts where community members can post messages of thanks.
“A strong educational community requires the talents and dedication of so many different people,” concludes superintendent Dr. Martell. “This spring, we’re proud to celebrate these incredible individuals who transform our district into a community of learning.”
