WARRIORS CENTRAL: HEARTS ACROSS AMERICA
Canton Elementary’s Special Education classroom participated in the Hearts Across America campaign this year, accomplishing something Mrs. Sara Ross would “never have imagined in her wildest dreams.”
This campaign is a popular classroom activity that asks for people around the country to send Valentines to classrooms. The goal? Receive at least one Valentine’s Day card from every single state in the USA. As the class received cards, they marked each state with a heart sticker, and proceeded to learn about that state. The students were fortunate enough to not only receive a card from every state, but even receive a valentine from foreign countries like Japan and Germany!
“We get a phone call every morning when the mail arrives, so we take a group up and they love going up and getting the mail and carrying it back,” explained Ross. “Then we rifle through it to find out what new states we’ve received it from. In the afternoon, we put a little heart on each state that we’ve received, so there’s just so much excitement across the board.”
