Vehicular Career Fair

by Jill Nickerson - October 26, 2018

On today’s broadcast, we cover the Vehicular Career Fair. From police vehicles and borough trucks to cranes and forklifts – all were welcome by the Blossburg Elementary Students on Tuesday when a Vehicular Career Fair was held at Blossburg Elementary School.

With the help of Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission, the Vehicular Career Fair was a success with over 20 presenters lined up around the school for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The purpose of the fair was to give elementary students experience and exposure to all types of careers. The Future Ready PA Index stresses the importance of exposing children to careers starting at the elementary level.

The Vehicular Career Fair was organized by elementary counselor Noreen Wheeler and Pat Chappell from Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission. Resources were made available through a business and education partnership grant.

Students were given the unique experience to learn about different job professions that involve vehicles, ask questions and even went home with their own hard hat.

Those who attended included Big Foot Country, Blossburg Borough, Blossburg Police Department, Canyon Country Cabs, Captured by Carrie Photography, Erlich Pest Control, Mansfield Crane, Penn Dot, Tioga Co. Probation, Steve Wunderlich Hood Care, Tioga County Sheriff, Tri-County, UGI, UPS, US Army Corps of Engineers, Ward Manufacturing, Hilfiger Bus Company and Blossburg Ambulance.

This event supports the continued effort of Southern Tioga School District to build relationships with area businesses and industry to work with the students K-12 to help them prepare for the future.
