Two WHS Chorus Students Compete At Regionals & States

by Sara Vogt - April 28, 2022

The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association held their District, Regional, and State Festivals beginning in February and concluding in April.

Noah Vickery and Hayne Webster both went through the audition process to attend District and Regional, and Hayne then continued to States. The Regional Festival happened on the weekend of March 24th and 25th. Then Hayne went onto the State Festival held on the weekend of April 6th – 8th.

Wellsboro High School Music teacher Dan Sensenig said that PMEA has twelve districts across the state that funnel down to six regions that conclude at the state level. Wellsboro High School is in District Eight. Dan noted that there are five hundred school districts in the state, so the competition along the way to go to District, Regional and State is an accomplishment for each student. Each festival allows the students to work with international conductors and other excelling music students.

Both Noah and Hayne are committed to excellence in their voice work, auditioning and competing with five other school districts. It is a process that they both felt was important to them because of their passion for music and excellence.

When Noah was asked why he enjoyed music so much, he replied, ” There is so much variety in music, so many different things that you can do in the music field that to me it brings a sense of joy that nothing else can.”

At States, Hayne finished fifth out of thirty-one in the section of music he performed. I asked Hayne how challenging was it to place that high, and he said,” Oh, it’s a lot; so many kids participate in these festivals from five hundred different schools, it’s an awesome experience, and I am honored to represent Wellsboro.”

Congratulations to all of those who competed in these festivals! And especially our congratulations go out to Noah and Hayne.
