Troy Students Discover What’s So Cool About Manufacturing
Students from Troy High School participated in this year’s What’s So Cool About Manufacturing video contest, a statewide competition that partners teams of students with local manufacturers to highlight the interesting side of their respective industries. The Northern Tier region is overseen by the Northern Tier Regional Planning & Development Commission and may include teams from districts in Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, and Wyoming counties. An award ceremony was held at the Towanda High School on Friday, April 11, during which students from every participating school were recognized for their hard work.
The Troy students were partnered with E-Tech Industrial Corporation in Troy, and Towanda students were partnered with Global Tungsten & Powders in Towanda.
“I think the biggest take away from this experience was how the manufacturers really are involved in the community and how we can get involved as well,” says Troy Itinerant Teacher Candace Tarhovicky, “The high school students are looking at their future and it’s important to keep those things in mind that aren’t the traditional path.”
Troy student Adrienne Gates shares, “I definitely learned how to work as a team, how to use different ideas and put them together into one, and I learned video editing and how much goes into a project.”
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro even sent a video message to the attendees, saying, “I know you’ve worked hard on your videos, but I want you to know that as Governor, I’m really proud of you. Your hard work is putting a spotlight on the amazing manufacturing companies that call our commonwealth home. And to all the participating companies, sponsors, schools, teachers, and superintendents who support their work, sincerely thank you. Together, you’re telling the Pennsylvania story.”
