Troy Rotary Contributes To Troy Community

by Veronica Seymour - May 12, 2022

I was invited by the Troy Rotary to their weekly meeting last week at the Iron Skillet in Sylvania to be a guest speaker about my position with Troy Home Page. It was a great opportunity to spread the word of my love for my community, along with my passion for Troy Home Page and promoting everything good in my community.

It was a challenge at first, in that we forgot our microphone the day of the meeting. Therefore, we met with President Rob Oldroyd this week to discuss the Troy Rotary and their upcoming “Armchair Races” that have been taking place for decades.

The Troy Rotary is a community organization that meets every Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Iron Skillet in Sylvania. They do a lot of wonderful things in our community and give back in many ways. Rob Oldroyd joined Rotary initially in 2014, then moved away for a brief time to teach in Ithaca, NY before returning in 2018 when he became a member again. Rob is the president and he has spearheaded a few big projects recently with Rotary. He is the one behind the community dinners held every second Monday of each month at the Presbyterian Church, he fixed the “Welcome to Troy” sign at the entrance to town through Rotary, and they host many events throughout the year to give back to the community.

Saturday, May 14th is the annual Armchair Races at the Troy Fire Hall. It is a fun night of good food, drinks, games and prized. According to Rob, this event has gone on for over 4 decades. They have a few tickets left! Contact Rob directly if you are interested, by calling 607-483-0445.

If you would like to learn more about Troy Rotary, or how to join, please contact Rob Oldroyd directly – or reach out to their Facebook page. They meet every Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Iron Skillet in Sylvania.
