Troy Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Towanda
The Troy Trojans hosted the Towanda Black Knights at Alparon Park Friday night, September 11, in a matchup that remained close through the first half before Troy pulled away in the second half for a 23-7 victory.
Neither team was able to find the end zone in the opening quarter, as both defenses held strong and kept the game scoreless.
Troy finally broke through midway through the second quarter when Evan Allen powered his way up the middle for a touchdown. Gavin Lykon-Leffler converted the extra point, giving the Trojans a 7-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Trojans extended their lead in the third quarter. After driving inside the Towanda 10-yard line, quarterback Spencer Martin kept the ball, cut back toward the end zone and scored on a quarterback keeper. The PAT was good, putting Troy ahead 14-0.
Troy continued to control the game on its next scoring drive, with Allen once again finding the end zone on an inside run to push the lead to 20-0.
Towanda answered late in the third quarter, breaking the shutout with just under three minutes remaining. Jazick Brown powered his way across the goal line, and the extra point made it a 20-7 game heading into the fourth.
Troy put the game away in the final quarter when Lykon-Leffler connected on a 20-yard field goal, giving the Trojans a 23-7 victory.
Both teams return to action Friday, September 18. Troy will host the Montgomery Red Raiders, while Towanda travels to take on the Muncy Indians.
