Troy baseball falls to Muncy in District opener

by By Chris Manning | Northern Tier Sports Report - May 22, 2023

EAST TROY — Troy’s Kory Schucker had a strong outing, but the Trojans weren’t able to get enough run production in their 3-2 loss to Muncy during the District IV, Class AA baseball quarterfinals Saturday.

Despite scoring just two runs the Trojans threatened nearly every inning, and left 11 stranded as they set the table but couldn’t eat.

Muncy pitcher Ross Eyer struck out 10, five times to get out of a jam to end an inning.

Schucker (2-for-3) and Lincoln Chimics (2-for-3) each had a multi-hit game, with Chimics also getting an RBI.

Justice Chimics (1-for-3) and Jackson Taylor scored their two runs, with Clayton Smith (1-for-4) also getting an RBI. Camden Allen (1-for-4) had a hit, as well.

Schucker struck out eight, including four of the last six batters he faced. He allowed three hits, two walks, two runs, and two hit batsmen.

Troy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Schucker had a 1-out hit. Taylor came on to run for him, and took second on a passed ball. Smith would come up with the big hit, singling off a 2-0 pitch to bring in Taylor.

Muncy pushed one across in the second, then added two more in the third for a 3-1 lead. The Trojans got runners to second and third in the third, with two outs, but Eyer got an inning ending strikeout.

In the sixth Justice Chimics led off with a hit, then took second on a passed ball. Two batters later Jed Feldmeier kept the at bat going by getting hit by a pitch. That set up Lincoln Chimics’ RBI hit that drove in his brother to cut it to 3-2.

In the seventh the heart of Troy’s order came up with Allen getting a lead-off hit. Taylor came on to run for him, with Schucker moving him to second on a ground out.

However, Eye got a pop-out to put his team 1-out away from the semifinals. Justice Chimics would draw a walk to keep the rally going, but Eyer ended things with a strikeout.
