Trojans Trounce Williamsport Mounties, 43-7
Last Friday, September 6th, the Troy Trojans battled the South Williamsport Mountaineers on the gridiron. The Trojans marched away with the victory, 43-7.
The Trojans started their scoring off with 8:14 left in the first quarter. 4th and 8, then Evan Woodward hit Mason Smith on an outside pass. After the successful extra point, Troy led 7-0.
Next score – Smith received a punt return on the 50 and took it all the way to the house, getting the Trojans out ahead 13-0.
Smith hit the Mounties with a sequel, received another punt return and followed his blockers all the way back into the end zone. After another missed point-after-attempt, it was 19-0.
Second quarter, 4th and 6, in the Mounties 45 – Woodward hit Brendan Gilliland on the flat for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good – Trojans led 26-0.
Troy put up two more scores – a touchdown and a field goal – before heading into the locker room with a comfortable 36-0 lead.
In the second half the Mounties got on the board off a huge run by Cade Lusk, breaking the shutout. Troy ultimately took away the victory with a final score of 43-7.
The Trojans will be back at Alperon Park next week on Saturday, September 14th – facing off against the Athens Wildcats.
